Job Title: Instrument and controls technician

Salary: to $24/hr

Employee Type: Temporary (long-term)

Location: Richmond, VA

Education: High School or GED and specialized vocational training or training equivalent to two years of college education with special courses (mathematics, science and electronics) with three years servicing a Distributed Process Control System in an industrial setting. A valid Virginia drivers license and physically able to pass a breathing test in order to wear a self contained breathing apparatus are also required.

Experience: At least 2-4 years of experience is desired. Individual must be highly qualified for the position of utilities instrumentation and controls in the field of Instrument and Control Maintenance. Expertise in working with industrial instrumentation electronics, wire tracing of process facilities, embedded computer systems, computer interfaces, various operating systems, data storage, data communication and transmissions, familiarity with VFD’s/AFD’s, familiarity with high level programming languages, process control systems hardware and software integration, and proprietary technologies.  Specific duties include the calibration, repair, and maintenance of electronic control equipment as found within an Industrial treatment plant, Wastewater treatment plant & Water purification and distribution system. This requires providing assistance for maintenance activities and supporting an on-call roster, revision of documentation, and development of I&C drawings. In addition, direct interfacing with the customer to define system requirements, providing regular reporting of project status, and maintaining open communications with project team is expected. Knowledge of telecommunication standards, loop circuits, telemetry circuits to include but not limited too Bristol Babcock hardware/software, Automation Onspec32 Software and Modbus. Decision-making techniques and high level of familiarity with Windows based computer systems are a plus.

Job Description: Instrumentation & Controls Technician is needed for a project in Richmond, VA. The project is related to construction work at various pumping stations & treatment plants (water or wastewater). The candidate must have hands-on experience working in dynamic construction environments. Extensive experience & flexibility is required. Some experience in the areas of testing, repair & calibration of flow and turbidity meters. Experience with chlorine analyzers, pressure & temperature gages, PLC’s, SCADA Systems, magnetic flow meters, communication wiring, gas & liquid feeders are also required.

Additional Notes: Candidate must be an independent worker, professional, have reliable automobile and must be able to pass a security background check. Candidate must pass a drug & alcohol test and is subject to random testing. At least 2-4 years of experience is desired. Daily work tasks will take place at the water treatment plant and various water pumping stations in the City of Richmond. Candidate must have a reliable vehicle and must be able to begin work in July 2009.
